About Lesson

Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a small town in Judea, which is located about six miles south of Jerusalem. The Nativity story, as recounted in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, tells us that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was betrothed to Joseph when she became pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

Due to a decree from Caesar Augustus that required everyone to return to their ancestral towns for a census, Joseph and Mary traveled from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem. This journey was likely challenging, especially for Mary, who was in the final stages of her pregnancy.

Upon arriving in Bethlehem, they found that there was no room available at the inn due to the influx of travelers for the census. Instead, they took refuge in a stable or cave, where animals were kept. It was in this humble setting that Jesus was born and laid in a manger, a feeding trough for animals, symbolizing his humble beginnings.

This event is celebrated by Christians around the world during Christmas, marking not just the birth of Jesus, but also the hope and peace he represents. The story emphasizes themes of humility and the importance of family and faith.
